Aging Sucks!
When did this happen?
I thought I was just 24.
Sagging, speckled, coarse skin
That time brings with it
And replaces it with hard-earned knowing
That Aging is not for the lighthearted.
Nothing works like it used to.
We are told of many tricks to hide from it:
Money spent again and again.
How do you hold the balance of acceptance and pride?
Look at your hands.
How have they worked for you?
Each mark, scar or crevasse has a story
They’ve held on and let go so many times you can’t count.
They too have aged but you can trust them,
As they will lead you forward
And teach you what’s important
While reminding you of what no longer serves you.
